Island Designs was proud to be a part of the large group effort to improve conditions at Whale Point, St. Croix. The goals? To provide safe pedestrian access, protect turtle nesting habitats, and improve water quality for coral reefs at Whale Point! This project was a collaboration between Horsley Whitten Group, the VI Department of Planning and Natural Resources, Geographic Consulting and was funded by the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration. After a month of construction, Island Designs completed the construction phase of the project which included a permeable parking lot, bio-retention ponds, and trail stabilization. All of these solutions work together to reduce erosion and sedimentation into the bay, prevent people form driving on endangered turtle nests, and protect our coral reefs all while maintaining pedestrian access to these stunning beaches.
